The Student Op Magazine - a Platform for Marginalized Students

Akshaya Annampedu is a college student who will attend the Vanderbilt University, Plano, Texas, USA in Fall 2022. As a high school student in the USA, Akshaya found it very difficult to get her writing published. So, Akshaya founded the online magazine – The Student Op – to give voice to marginalized students all over the world. Students from all over the world have written about a variety of topics – Period Poverty in Malaysia; Himalayan climate struggles cause suffering; The gray area first-generation students face; Breaking away from body stigma in fashion; Space trips, now?

Here is a snippet from one of the articles:

It is frightening how quickly people can dismiss morals and logic in crucial moments. I have watched as people support illogical conclusions and connect unconnected events about prejudiced communities as though they were required to forget what logic was. In reality, people are merely afraid to disagree and choose what is popular, not what is correct.

Here is a poem from the magazine:

Sarah shares a septolet, which is a seven-line poem consisting of fourteen words broken into two parts.

Neither greed

Nor sorrow

Sharply pricks

Innocent soul

But hatred

Slowly wounds

Beyond repair

Akshaya recently gave a talk at TEDx Plano. Here is the video of her interesting talk.
