I did my fifth standard in a school in Nagercoil. On Sunday afternoons, after lunch we used to hear music from Ceylon radio. The voice of the radio jockey will be musical and they will pronounce crystal clear Tamil.
Tamil hit songs countdown(like Superhit Muqabla) was aired on the radio at that time(1983). Devathai Ilam Devi song from the movie Aayiram Nilave Vaa became the number one song in the ranking. And on all the following weeks it continued to top the list. If i am not mistaken, i think the song was number one for more than a year. Kudos to Ilayaraja( music director), SPB (singer), and Karthik (Actor).

Anitha, it should be Devadhai ilam devi.Not devathai (may be mis read deva thai/godly mother). I was wondering why I did not know this song deva thai, later realised it as Devadhai ilam devi oorai suttrum aavi.

It is "Unnai Sutrum Aavi" ! I checked-both Devathai and Devadhai translate to the Tamil Angel in text boxes!!!
